Baseball is a ball game played on an outdoor field with a bat and ball with 9 players. Baseball is divided into infield and outfield, and the infield is also called "square" because there is one base in each of the four corners of the main infield. The infield is made up of the two sides of the infield area and the other two sides of the outfield area.

Note: 1、There are two illumination values per cell in the table, the front value is the illumination value of the infield, and the back is the illumination value of the outfield.
2、Inner field lighting must be able to follow the ball and bat fast movement, the outer field lighting must be able to follow the ball track, the inner and outer field should be different different illumination.
3. Considering the television broadcast and the ball being hit out of the field of play, the stands should provide certain lighting.
Television broadcasting standards for professional baseball.
The main difference between baseball field lighting and other sports lighting is that the requirements for the position of the light pole and the relative position of the field are very strict. There are 6~7 fixed camera positions commonly used on baseball fields, and the illumination value requirements are not clearly stated in the relevant television broadcasting standards of Major League Baseball, and the implementation process is more based on horizontal illumination requirements. After meeting the horizontal illumination parameters proposed by the league, the televising effect can usually be well guaranteed.
The illumination requirements of Major League Baseball are as follows
1. Infield: horizontal illumination ≥ 2500lx
2. outfield: horizontal illumination ≥ 2000lx
3. The color rendering index of the light source is ≥65
4. The color temperature of the light source is ≥ 3700K
II. Outdoor baseball field lighting
Baseball field lighting range not only in the sports ground, in the upper space of the field should also be sufficient illumination, in the pitcher and catcher between the scope of the special need for high illumination lighting. In order to reduce glare interference to the audience and increase the comfort of the visual environment, there should be 7 m of illuminated area from the outside of the field boundary, in order to reduce glare and increase the brightness of the space, the installation height of the lighting fixtures of ordinary baseball fields should be greater than 28 m, and the installation height of the lighting fixtures of the baseball fields of major games should be greater than 35 m. Usually 6 or 8 light poles are used to install the lamps, and they can also be installed above the spectator seats. The light poles should be located outside the main visual range (20o) to reduce unnecessary glare.
The infield dimensions for baseball are standard, while the outfield dimensions/areas vary. The field dimensions include a 4.6m (15ft) out-of-bounds area. The out-of-bounds area is considered part of the playing area and should be considered in the lighting design (see Figure 7-56). Large and small league fields extend the outside zone into the spectator area and can gradually reduce this zone toward the outfield. The lighting area also needs to include the alternate player area, player rest area, and warm-up area.
The main problems in the design and movement of existing baseball lighting systems lie in the following areas.
1. Incorrect position of the light pole.
2. Insufficient illumination.
3. The illumination ratio (i.e. uniformity) between infield and outfield lighting does not meet the requirements.
The inappropriate position of the light tower and the inappropriate aiming point of the luminaire often lead to the non-compliance of the illuminance ratio, and the unclean or poorly maintained lighting fixtures lead to the lack of illuminance.
