When comparing various LED lighting fixtures, you will undoubtedly come across the word lumen. Lumen says something about the amount of light that comes out of the LED lights. The abbreviation for lumen is LM. In this article we tell you more about it and what you should pay attention to.
Watts, lumens and lux
Where conventional lighting was often only referred to as wattage, nowadays LED lighting refers to the amount of lumen. Lumen also makes it possible to compare the different lamps (energy saving lamps, LED lamps, halogen lamps).
If you compare different LED fixtures, take a good look at the amount of lumen. The wattage only says something about the energy consumption and nothing about the light output. Lumen indicates how much light the lamp emits. The amount of light that falls on a surface is again expressed in Lux.
Energy investment deduction
The lumen per Watt ratio is the energy efficient of the LED light source. As of January 1, 2020, an LED fixture must have an energy efficiency of at least 125 Lm/W to meet the EIA (energy investment deduction).
