RGB stands for Red Green Blue and is used in many applications. It is also used in LED lighting. But what exactly is RGB? And how does RGB LED lighting work? What are the benefits and what can it be used for? We are happy to tell you more about it.

What is RGB?

RGB is a particular color model where black is the base color. It is an additive color system which is based on the addition of different light colors. When two primary colors are combined, a lighter color is created. When the three primary colors are combined, white light is created. RGB is widely used in screens. When you look closely at a pixel, you will see a red, green and blue sub-pixel that together produce the correct color of light.

Another common color model is CMYK. A big difference between CMYK is that when all colors are mixed with CMYK, black is created. With RGB then white is created.

How does RGB LED lighting work?

With RGB LED lighting, red, green and blue LEDs are incorporated in one housing. When these burn at full and equal intensity and overlap each other, white light is created. When the colors only partially overlap, another color is also created. The light intensity also plays an important role here. By lighting up an LED more or less, the light source can show even more different colors. LED has long been known as cold, bright white light. With RGB LED lighting, when these colors overlapped, a kind of blue-white light was created. However, that has long since ceased to be the case, but with RGB it is not possible to produce warm white light. That's why RGBW was created. The W stands for White. In addition to the normal red, green and blue LED, RGBW LED lighting also consists of a warm white LED, so that this color can also be made and other colors have a somewhat warmer appearance.
